A day to celebrate freshwater

Each year since 1993, the United Nations dedicated a day to draw people’s attention to the importance of freshwater and to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Water World Day was officially assigned to the 22nd of March with a different theme each year, organized by one of the UN’s Water members.

Better Water and Better Jobs

This year the theme is “Better Water and Better Jobs”; which highlights the ties between freshwater and community job production. Indeed, 1.5 billion people (half of the world’s workers) work in water related sectors, especially in Africa where the water sector is one of the fastest growing.

As marine scientists, we would all be out of jobs if water on our planet ceased to exist. As such we would like to see the kind of role water plays in your job, so send us your pictures or selfies.
